A group of one hundred artists transformed an empty building and its surroundings into a multidisciplinary performance and art installation. Huoneiden kirja (Book of Rooms) is based on a book of prose poetry by Saila Susiluoto and it’s 64 different poems. The abandoned, wind-battered house consists of 64 rooms, each room as an artist interpretation of the poem.
Room number 31, Nimetön (nameless) was located on the rooftop of the house. On the roof wanders a mythical figure with a huge cane made by bulrush, on its own time and space. It moves slowly, almost meditatively, waving its branch in the air.
Figure can be seen as a guard of the house, goddess, spirit of the certain season. The room was open to different interpretations and invited wanderers of the house to settle down on the meditative space with the figure.
Book of rooms received the State Prize for Performing Arts.
