THE ULTIMATE MIXTAPE OF HOPE’sdevelopment process started during the residency at DE-CONSTRUKT in New York, Brooklyn, and is still a work in progress. The piece is based on the artists long distance relationship between New York and Helsinki and it examines the nature of a long distance relationship through the lens of history.
By creating a performance in the form of an “Ultimate Mixtape of Hope”- cassette tape, the performance will resemble the scattered nature of a mixtape. The aim of the piece is to address the feelings while searching, as well as developing understanding through personal experience.
The performance starts from a personal perspective, the artist receives an audiotape from “R” and the tape is named “Songs for a Finn” and is newly recorded. Listening to the tape triggers memories that repeat over and over, creating an effect where the material cuts in and out, simultaneously creating smudges and clusters of visual memories… very much like a mixtape.
The mixtape serves as a metaphor for today’s’ relationships in their multiple and various nature. Ceremoniously TheUltimate mixtape of hope, reaches for hope, as well as asking what essential we might have taped over?
